Have You Heard? Dentists may be more important to living a longer life than your physician.

With all the data coming out in hundreds of medical journals, we are finding that the link between oral diseases and systemic diseases is getting stronger and stronger.

What does this mean?

1) Dentists better know more about the effects of what they do (and don’t do) as far as treating conditions in the mouth.
2) Medical doctors should understand the risk factors associated with these chronic systemic illness that are found in the mouth.
3) The patient with oral conditions should realize the severity of the problem which lies within their mouth.

Could the majority of chronic systemic illnesses be linked so closely with gum disease or dental cavities?

Absolutely.

Peel away the stereotype that dentist are only “mouth doctors” and you will uncover a greater need for our dental professionals.
